VALLEJO — This is the last week to enjoy the August Summer Nights celebration downtown and the opening week for the “Causing Cultural Anarchy” show at Mare Island Art Studios. Plus, Bay Area Stage will host “Annie KIDS, the Musical” for one weekend only, and there are ample opportunities to catch a variety of live music.
Tonight, you can catch two blues greats at the Empress Lounge. Kid Andersen and John “Blues” Boyd are likely to sell out the show, so get your tickets early.
The last “August Summer Nights” event of the year will happen Thursday and feature two local favorites, Papa Joe and the New Deal, and singer Glenn Snyder. These Thursday night events have been alive with food trucks, vendors, and dancing in the street. Don’t miss this if you haven’t attended one yet!
“Annie KIDS, The Musical” plays Friday through Sunday at Bay Area Stage. Take the kids or the grand kids out for a fun time watching this classic musical about a hard luck orphan performed by kids for other kids to enjoy.
The much less innocent “Causing Cultural Anarchy V — ForbHidden'' art show opens Saturday at Mare Island Arts Studios. The show’s theme is “Our hidden sex, sexuality, gender and identity in art.”
The show’s curators encouraged artists who share intensely personal work they may have feared to expose before. The show comes with a warning that “Some works in this show will contain images, words and ideas that some may find objectionable.”
Live music offerings throughout the week range from R&B to Americana to goth.
This will be a good weekend stay in town, because the usual Labor Day weekend traffic will be exacerbated by the closure of Interstate Highway 80 between Interstate 780 in Vallejo and state Highway 4 in Hercules.
Check the listings below for more activities.
