VALLEJO — This week brings a new play to the Vallejo Museum, a Second Friday Art Walk bursting with live music, and the debut of 2nd Saturday’s Small Business Market on the waterfront.
“Fun Home”, a musical play adapted from Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel opens at the Vallejo Museum on Friday, and will run through April 20. The coming of age story performed by On the Fringe Visual and Performing Arts explores sexual identity and family secrets.
With warmer weather and lengthening daylight, Friday’s Art Walk will expand with a bounty of live music both indoors and out throughout Vallejo’s downtown. Genres span from an open mic cypher to mellow acoustic guitar.
The Temple Arts Loft Gallery will host “Visual and Verse” during Art Walk to celebrate Vallejo’s newly installed Poet Laureates, Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrmann. Their words will intertwine with the visual art on display, creating a multi-sensory experience that reflects the richness of Vallejo’s creative spirit.
2nd Saturdays Small Business Market debuts on the Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Green, with local vendors and artisans, food and drink, live music, and guest Djs. This new event will return to the waterfront every second Saturday through September. Update: Arpril's 2nd Saturdays event is canceled due to rain. The first event will be held in May.
The Solano County Fairgrounds will host two fun events this weekend. Circus on Ice will hold two shows of elegant ballet combined with traditional circus acts on Saturday evening. Pangora’s Box will bring handmade oddities to the Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday.
The Oakland Jazz Choir will fill St. Peter’s Chapel on Mare Island with five and six-part harmonies on Sunday afternoon. Enjoy original and contemporary arrangements from the bebop era to jazz and modern pop under the historic chapel’s Tiffany stained glass windows.
Two worthy fundraisers will take place on Sunday. Miss Vallejo/Tri-City Sydney Allen is holding a Crown & Sash Tea fundraiser at Zio Fraedos in the afternoon. Meet Allen and learn about her experience in the Miss America organization.
Half of the proceeds will support Allen’s participation in the Miss California competition in June, the rest will go to the Miss Vallejo/Tri-City scholarship organization.
Then on Sunday evening, the VEONA Children’s Choir will host a Masked Melody Gala & Auction at Savage and Cooke on Mare Island. Enjoy live performances, silent and live auctions and excellent food and drink while helping to support the nonprofit’s mission to make music education accessible.
These are just some highlights from a long list of events happening this week. Be sure to check the list below for more live music, art and recreational activities.
