VALLEJO — The holiday spirit ramps up in Vallejo this week with art markets, Christmas music, and holiday-themed activities for kids.
For your holiday shopping, you can find something for everyone on your list while supporting talented local artists.
In addition to the open shops and street vendors on Georgia and Marin Streets, Friday evening’s Art Walk will host an indoor party at Temple Arts Lofts, featuring the works of 15 local artists. Around the corner at IntegriTea, musicians and more local artists will be at the official Art Walk After Party that runs late into the night.
On Saturday morning, Moschetti Coffee Roaster in South Vallejo will add a Christmas Market with handmade fine arts and crafts by local vendors to their regular, free coffee tasting event.
Then on Saturday at noon, Mare Island Art Studios will debut their Holiday Bazaar Art Market. Explore a curated selection of unique ceramics, vibrant paintings, handmade greeting cards, fiber arts, and many other crafts. The bazaar will be open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons through Dec. 22.
And if you are into Christmas music, three very different offerings are coming up this weekend.
Contemporary jazz pianist David Benoit and singer Courtney Fortune will pay tribute to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at the Empress Theatre on Saturday evening. The show will feature the original music of Vince Guaraldi along with compositions by Benoit, who took the helm as music composer for the Charlie Brown Christmas TV specials more than a decade ago.
On Sunday afternoon, the Vallejo Choral Society’s “Love Came Down at Christmas,” will feature two different interpretations of the Magnificat canticle by Antonio Vivaldi and Dale Trumbore, along with other seasonal offerings, at the Springbrook Masonic Temple. The choir will also perform these works in Benicia on Saturday evening at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Then on Sunday evening at “Christmas Together with The Katinas” at The Hill Vallejo, the Katina brothers will sing your favorite holiday classics and original tunes in this beautifully decorated church.
For the kids, the Festival of Lights will continue at Children's Wonderland Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons until Dec. 29. Or bring them to Saturday’s breakfast with the Grinch at the Cunningham Aquatic Complex.
There’s theater happening this weekend in Vallejo too.
The Black Box Radio Stars will celebrate their 10th anniversary this weekend at the Mira Theatre performing “The Falcon Dialed the Wrong Number,” a tribute to their first live radio play version of “The Maltese Falcon,” with performances on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Cabaret admission includes cake, Champagne and a chance to mingle with the cast.
Bay Area Stage Theatre will continue their performances of “The Last Night Of Ballyhoo” on Friday, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons through Dec. 22. The Grand Victorian Homes Tour of Vallejo on Sunday afternoon will begin with a buffet reception at the USA World Classic Car Museum. Pick up a map there, then take yourself on a self-guided tour of fine homes throughout Vallejo's Architectural Heritage District. The Tour will end with an after party at Vino Godfather Winery starting at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Mad Hatter Holiday Festival and Parade.
