VALLEJO — Mare Island Art Studios will host a fundraiser featuring live music performances to support aspiring young Solano County artists on Saturday, the San Francisco Bay Osprey Days tours return to Mare Island this weekend, and a new musical, “Alice by Heart,” opens Friday at Bay Area Stage Theatre.
The “Show Up & Show Out” event at Mare Island Art Studios on Saturday afternoon will feature live music, art vendors and a raffle to benefit an art scholarship for aspiring young Solano County artists. Food vendors at this event will help satisfy your sweet tooth.
The seven live musical performers will include rapper and singer Opineismyname, singer Dawn Da'Jet and rapper G-Swazy. Among the featured artists are Oasis Comics and Tatiana White, author of the novel “The Gifted Society.”
San Francisco Bay Osprey Days is in their twelfth year of conducting free, guided hiking and car caravan tours of osprey nesting sites on Mare Island, Friday through Sunday. Ospreys began nesting around the San Francisco Bay area in the early 2000s, which is of great interest to birders.
In addition to the free land tours, boating excursions around the island are available for $45.
The musical play “Alice by Heart” by the award-winning duo Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik opens at Bay Area Stage Theatre on Friday and will run through July 24. The play depicts two teenagers who escape the London blitz of World War II through the pages of their cherished book, “Alice in Wonderland.”
The film “Brown Baby Boomers: Growing Up Filipino In Vallejo, CA" will premiere at the Vallejo Museum on Saturday afternoon in celebration of Vallejo’s Philippine Cultural Month. Special guest Oscar Penaranda will read from his new book “Follower of the Seasons.”
These are just some of the highlights of this week’s happenings. Be sure to check the list below for more live music, baseball, literature, pet adoptions, art and recreational activities.
