VALLEJO — There’s a lot going on in Vallejo this Saturday as a big Day of the Dead celebration will be held downtown and a new opera opens at the Mira Theatre.
Verismo Opera will launch their three-week run of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Luisa Miller” at the Mira on Saturday. The rarely performed opera tells a story of love, passion and violent jealousy.
Saturday’s Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead festival, will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Georgia Street downtown next to the Farmers’ Market. See our article here for more information.
There’s also a chance for some outdoor exercise for a good cause on Saturday morning as the Solano Land Trust and Bay Area Ridge Trail holds a workday to improve the condition of the trail, which winds past the serpentine rock formations that overlook Columbus Parkway.
Live music acts on Saturday include the talented local favorites Ariel Marin at Vino Godfather and DW Edwards at Bambino’s. Loop station virtuoso Nicholas Lefler will play at the Mare Island Brewery Taproom, and some “dope and electrifying bands” will perform at the “Between A Rock & A Hard Place” show at the Carnailito’s Customs venue on Tennessee Street.
Touro University’s online webinar series on Social Justice in Public Health resumes on Thursday with a talk about the social significance and impacts of big data, artificial intelligence and policy on health equity and social justice. The speakers include Dr. Sergio Litewka, director of global bioethics at the University of Miami’s Institute of Bioethics, and Terika McCall, assistant professor of biostatistics at the Yale School of Public Health.
