VALLEJO — New Year’s Eve is approaching and there are a plethora of celebrations happening around Vallejo to celebrate.
The Camp Jeff Band will ring in the new year with classic rock at The Empress Theatre, and debut the theater’s new sound system. The band includes former members of iconic bands Boston, Starship, Eddie Money and Big Brother and the Holding Company. $39 general admission.
DJ Quelly Quell will ring in the New Year at My Office Bar and Grill, $10 cover, and DJ Oras will be spinning at Gentleman Jim's, $5 cover charge after 11:30 p.m.
The Coco Sweet event space will host a Caribbean New Years Eve Party for ages 18 and over, with hookah smoking, food, drink, and music by DJ Zoe, DJ Douss and DJ Dave. $33.85 general admission.
Chris' Club will count down the close of 2024 with a Black and Gold New Year's Party with music by DJ Hyphee. Champagne or tequila toasts at midnight. A black and gold dress code will be strictly enforced. $10 cover charge.
Then on Sunday, Vallejo's own LaRussell will hold his first of a series of Sunday afternoon shows at the Empress Theatre, where he’ll be joined onstage by Ron Funches and Twista. The rap icon will be back on Jan. 12 with Lea Jena, and return on Jan. 26 with the Collab Choir. LaRussell and his Good Compenny Collective are pioneering offer-based admission. Pay what you can afford, but please consider the artist's time, effort, energy and travel expenses.
Also on Sunday afternoon, at St Peter’s Chapel on Mare Island, The Mare Island Historic Park foundation will host “Kamikaze!” a historical talk by Dr. Rob Hoffman that spans eight decades of military history, from a pivotal amphibious operation in the 1940s to the high desert of Nevada during the peak of the Cold War era. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Movement with Mary Jane
Movement with Mary Jane is a guided movement flow to enhance the mind, body, spirit connection. This is an infused experience for people 21 and over, exceptions made if you have a doctor’s recommendation. 6 to 7 p.m. is the "Inhale Session", where we vaporize our herbal allies and unwind over freshly brewed tea. 7 to 8 p.m. is the "Exhale Flow", where we center in our breath and find balance in our bodies through a guided series of yoga-inspired movements and stretches, moving into gentle, breath-informed dance.

Vallejo's own rapper LaRussell performs with Ron Funches and Twista. LaRussell and his independent collective, Good Compenny, are pioneering change within the hip-hop industry. They are supporting independent artists without requiring them to give up ownership of their art. LaRussell has a knack for simplifying the most complex experiences and making them feel relevant to the listener.

Speaker Series: Kamikaze!
Embark with Dr. Rob Hoffman of the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory on a historical journey spanning eight decades, from a pivotal amphibious operation in the 1940s to the high desert of Nevada during the peak of the Cold War era. Prior to the Allied landings on the Philippines, the Japanese employed Kamikaze pilots in a devastating aerial campaign during a naval battle, which ultimately became the deadliest in naval history.
