VALLEJO — Bay Area Comics celebrates the first anniversary of their “Uncensored” comedy shows at the Empress Lounge on Thursday, with founder Guile Mosher headlining for the first time.
Mosher started the monthly comedy shows at the Empress, plus other more family friendly shows at Bambino’s, after he moved to the area in 2022. Other featured comedians this week will be Jonny Rios, David May, Nathaniel Webb and Dana Olney.
A trio of fun poetry events are also happening this week. The monthly Poetry by the Bay open mic at the Mira Theatre tonight will be followed by OZCAT radio’s live poetry show on Thursday morning. A Poetry Slam event at Chris’ Club on Monday night, when poets will compete for a cash prize, is bound to be entertaining and lively. You don’t need to be a poet to enjoy the art of spoken word!
For music lovers, Johnny Cats Blues and Soul Revue play at the Empress Lounge this evening with a virtuoso cast of musicians fronted by the amazing vocals of San Jose native Lijah .
Saturday comes with several musical options. David El 3-oh brings “jazzy hip-hop Latin rock funk” to Bambino’s, singer-songwriter Richard March will play at the Coalshed Brewery Taproom, two bands from Sianola – La Adictiva and Banda Los Sebastianes – will play at the Solano County Fairgrounds, and dance band D’ Groove will rock out at Gentleman Jim’s.
Two live jazz shows are happening on Sunday. First a lunchtime event at Bambino’s with singer Laura Dorais, then Ron McGee and Stan Hitchcock perform at Manny’s Steakhouse on the waterfront in the evening. There’s no cover charge for either of these shows – admission is included with your meal.
