VALLEJO — Vallejo’s second Friday Art Walk is expanding this month with a new management team coordinating live music acts throughout downtown. Musicians will play on every corner and inside shops and breezeways around Georgia, Marin and Virginia Streets. There will be belly dancing at Bambino’s restaurant, and a late night afterparty at IntegriTea with live music by David El 3-Oh!
Artists and craftspeople will display their wares on the sidewalks, and restaurants and businesses like The Joint and Alibi Bookshop on Marin Street, and Autonomous Gallery and the Neighborhood Plant Dealer in the Georgia Street breezeway will be open late.
Then on Saturday, the Vallejo Second Saturday event on the waterfront is another great place to find local arts and crafts and support small businesses and food vendors.
Moschetti’s Coffee Roaster will celebrate Bastille Day during this Saturday’s free coffee tasting, with French street food and live Gypsy jazz by Duo Gadjo
St Peter’s Chapel on Mare Island will hold two events on Sunday: a midday free tour of the historic building, and a performance by the Valley String Quartet in the afternoon.
This is the closing weekend for two theatrical events. — “The Drowning Girls” by On the Fringe Visual and Performing Arts runs Thursday through Saturday at the Vallejo Museum, and the musical “Alice by Heart” at Bay Area Stage Theater runs Friday through Sunday.
At local art galleries, the Personal Space gallery will celebrate their one-year anniversary on Sunday at the opening of “Nocturnes,” with work by eight artists, refreshments and live music by Agnes Martian. The “Coalshed3'' photography and “Form & Flow” exhibits at Mare Island Art Studios can be viewed on Saturday and Sunday.
Further afield in Benicia, the works of Allen Birnbach and Emil Yanos will be on display at the “Embracing Earth” show at the NY2CA gallery, Thursday through Sunday, with an artist talk by Birnbach on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Some of the live music highlights this week are the Terry Hank Band tonight at the Empress Lounge, Jimbo Scott at the Mare Island Coalshed Brewery, and Groove Ride at the Bands and Brews event at Blue Rock Springs Park on Friday.
On Saturday you can catch Private Practice at Vino Godfather, The Max Cortes quartet at Bambino’s, or Richard March at the Mare Island Brewery Taproom. Then on Sunday the Bryan Girard Jazz Quartet plays at a lunchtime show at Bambino’s, Patron Latin Rhythms performs at Vino Godfather in the afternoon, and rock bands Ajar, Cohesion and Project Red will play at the Townhouse in the evening.
