VALLEJO — Spring has sprung, which means it’s time for the Vallejo Waterfront Carnival.
Butler Amusements’ annual stop on the Vallejo waterfront opens on Thursday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon, with exciting rides, classic carnival games and delicious fair food.
Later on Thursday evening, Comedy Uncensored will laugh it up with bawdy and politically incorrect humor at the Empress Lounge. The headliner this month is Ryan Rodriguez, who has performed at the Improv, Tommy T's, and Laughs Unlimited. Also featuring Greg Asdourian, Jonny Rios, and Blackbook Comedy host Guile Mosher.
On Friday evening, the Vallejo Art Walk will debut the new headquarters and gallery space of the Solano County Arts Council, which will occupy the Virginia Street office space where California Forever was briefly housed.
The gallery’s inaugural exhibition will feature the dynamic work of Yuji Morita and other talented local artists, plus live reggae pop fusion by Sobre Cuerdas. The Solano County Arts Council will also host the official beer and wine bar for the evening’s Art Walk festivities
Around the corner at Temple Arts Lofts, Vallejo Co-Poet Laureates Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrmann will host an art-inspired poetry reading at 6 p.m.
Many other downtown businesses will stay open late on Friday, including Alibi Bookshop, which is hosting “Keep Looking Up,” a group show by local artists throughout the store. This show will be open until May 3 during the bookshop's regular business hours.
Across the street from the bookshop, The Joint has transformed into The Exchange, a creative clubhouse that is part workshop, part workspace, and part social club. The Exchange will host an Art Cafe – two sessions of ready-to-make creative projects for $29 per person with advance registration.
Then later on Friday night, an Art Walk dance and after party, Club UFO, will land at the Odd Fellows hall. Live music by America’s Got Talent stars The Galactivators, local talent Airlift Underground, and opening act DJ Ai Lee-N, who will abuse AI for your dancing pleasure. $10 cover, 18 and over for entry, 21 and over for drinks.
Some more live music offerings this week include Kiel Williams and Owen Ridings who will play a diverse mix of rock and folk, funk, indie, and Americana at the Coal Shed Brewery on Friday evening. Then Lighting Up the Soul will play jazz, funk, soul, and R&B at Bambino’s on Saturday evening, and saxophonist Bryan Girard will play jazz at Bangkok Island in the Gateway Shopping Center on Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday, you can attend Palm Sunday Worship Services at Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church in the morning, or listen to a demonstration of the grand pipe organ at the historic St. Peter's Chapel on Mare Island in the afternoon.

St. Peter's Chapel - Self-guided Tour
St. Peter's Chapel is open to the public every second and fourth Sunday of the month.
If you've never seen the interior be prepared to be astounded by the 29 stained-glass windows and the magnificence of the interior. Docents will be available to answer all your questions. All we ask is a $5 donation toward the chapel maintenance fund.
A museum by itself, St. Peter's Chapel, built in 1901, is known for its large collection of stunning Tiffany windows, vaulted ceilings with exposed redwood beams, and historic plaques, you’ll find yourself in awe of the craftsmanship on display. Learn about Mare Island through the lens of the oldest Navy Chapel in the country.
