VALLEJO — Downtown Vallejo and the adjacent waterfront will come alive with four festivals on Friday and Saturday: the annual Visions of the Wild Festival, Mexican Independence celebration Fiestas Patrias, an expanded Second Friday Art Walk and a waterfront kite festival.
“Visions of the Wild — Re•Generation” is a two-day festival that will open during Art Walk on Friday evening with an art show at the Temple Art Lofts Gallery. The juried show features nature-themed art by award-winning local artists and a photography exhibit that captures the evolving beauty and changes in the natural and human-made landscapes, homes, and businesses over the decades.
Then on Saturday during Farmers Market on Georgia Street, Visions of the Wild’s Family Discovery Zone and an Outdoor Expo a block away on Virginia Street, will give demonstrations about local wildlife, environmentally friendly lifestyle choices and how to grow your own food.
Also during Farmer’s Market, the Visions of the Wild art exhibit at Temple Arts Lofts Gallery will be open with an added speaker panel, featuring historians Marian Argonza Hopwood, Marisela Barbosa, and Sharon McGriff-Payne. The panel will be followed by readings by Vallejo Poet Laureates Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrman.
Two Visions of the Wild film festivals will be shown on Saturday. The Wild Child selection of short films will be shown at Riverbank at 1 p.m.. These films cater to the younger generation, teaching them about ecosystems and how young people can make a difference in the world. Then at 7 p.m. the Wild & Scenic Film Festival will show longer films that inspire solutions to restore the earth and human communities while creating a positive future for the next generation at the Vallejo Museum.
The second Friday Vallejo Art Walk will have an expanded footprint this month.
