VALLEJO — This week offers two comedy shows, the return of the August Summer Nights celebration downtown, three days of “Treetopia” on Mare Island, and a variety of live music and art shows — all bookended by two community town hall meetings.
Bay Area Comics features Jimmy Earll headlining the monthly show at the Empress Lounge on Thursday, and Saturday they’ll be joined at the Napa Smith Brewery by Mean Dave.
The first August Summer Nights event by Vallejo Main Street in over a decade will enliven the downtown streets every Thursday this month. Live music by Don Caprice and LJ Bryant and the Lost Art will kick off the festivities for the first event this week.
Treetopia is a three-day tree industry festival that starts Friday. The family event with games, education and entertainment takes place in Alden Park, and after-parties will be on the Mare Island promenade and the Admiral’s mansion on Friday and Saturday.
Fans of Mitch Woods and his Rocket 88 can catch them at Blue Rock Springs Park for the Bands and Brews 2023 event on Friday.
Deadheads will enjoy the “Grateful Day On The Waterfront” event on the Mare Island promenade on Sunday which features Cubensis: The Grateful Dead Experience, Grateful Brass by Jazz Mafia, The Alligators, Lovin’ Dead and Love Mischief.
The Reflective Art of an Indigenous People show at the Vallejo Museum features the works of local artists through Aug. 19. Meet the artists at an opening reception this Saturday.
Visions of the Wild has opened a Call for Art for their show in October. Winners will receive a $1,000 stipend to depict an environmental hero. The application deadline is Friday Aug. 11.
California Sen. Bill Dodd and U.S. Rep. John Garamendi are holding an open house this evening to talk about key issues in their North Bay districts.
The Vallejo Police Department will host a community discussion on proposed changes to their response to alarm calls next Tuesday.

The Visions of the Wild Festival and the U.S. Forest Service invite artists from Vallejo and Benicia to submit artwork to our juried art exhibition, Environmental Heroes. Artists 18 and older are encouraged to submit their work. Winners will receive a stipend of $1,000 and must complete their piece by Oct. 7 to be included in the festival Oct. 13 – 15.
