VALLEJO — Vallejo Waterfront Weekend returns this weekend. The two-day celebration features live music and community-oriented activities at the Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Park.
The first weekend in October was proclaimed “Waterfront Weekend'' by the City of Vallejo after the first event in 2014. The event provides a dual purpose of showcasing the good in Vallejo while fundraising for participating non-profits.
Live music by popular local bands and a car show with classic, low-rider and specialty vehicles are major attractions. Local politicians and celebrities subject themselves to the dunk tank for a small donation. The Whaleboat Regatta, the 5K Glo Run and Disc Golf Tournament raise money while adding excitement to the event.
The new exhibit will open at Mare Island Art Studios on Saturday. The artwork of Mark Martin and José Martinez features themes of societal change heroes and environmental issues The exhibit will include a community Day of the Dead altar that will be up for the month of October. Visit the exhibition and stay to make paper flowers, papel picado, or drop off a symbol of a lost loved one. Martinez will host the first of an intro to painting class earlier the same day.
The Genealogy Society of Vallejo-Benicia will host Vallejo author Marisela Barbosa-Cortez on Thursday at the Vallejo Museum in a talk about her book “Hispanics and Latinos in Vallejo.”
The ACLU of Northern California is holding its second community meeting on policing issues in Vallejo this evening. On Thursday, Touro University will hold a webinar on the social and racial implications of artificial intelligence hosted by Executive Director of MediaJustice Steven Renderos.
