VALLEJO — Halloween is the favorite holiday of many children and adults, and there’s plenty for both groups to enjoy in Vallejo this year.
A new Halloween block party will take over a street on Mare Island next Saturday, and a bevy of “Trunk or Treat” events hosted by various community groups will distribute candy to Vallejo kids. The events culminate on Halloween night with Nightmare on Glenn Street at Children’s Wonderland and The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Empress Theatre.
The festivities ramp up next Saturday, when over twenty downtown merchants will distribute candy during the Costume Stroll at the weekly Farmers’ Market. Start at the Vallejo Main Street booth at the RiverBank parking lot at 324 Georgia St. to pick up a map of participating businesses.
Moschetti’s Coffee Roaster on Curtola Parkway will host Liaison Noir’s “A Taste of Gothique” during its weekly coffee tasting event, featuring goth DJ music and a Halloween costume contest.
A new block party on Mare Island will be held on Walnut Avenue’s “Officers Row” on Saturday, with the new Quarters Coffee House, Vino Godfather and Vallejo People’s Garden participating. This free event will have a DJ, a dog costume contest and face and pumpkin painting activities. Food trucks will be on site with snacks, hot chocolate and beer and wine.
Most of the city’s “Trunk or Treat” events, where decorated cars gather in a parking lot to dole out treats, will be held on Sunday. The Moose Lodge, The Boys and Girls Empowerment Group, and We the Community — a coalition of car clubs, community groups and small businesses — will pop their trunks in separate celebrations around the town.
On Tuesday Oct. 31, kids can enjoy the free Nightmare on Glenn Street party at Children’s Wonderland with a trick-or-treat lane, haunted hallway and hay maze.
That night, adults can dress up like Magenta, Rocky and Frank-N-Furter and throw things in the air at Empress Theatre's screening of the Rocky Horror Picture show.
